In the hundred of years during which Philima was the ruler of Fontis Sapienta, the Khlorri acted as her assistants, doing the duties which she neglected, and ensuring that the city stayed floating via their magic song. Now that the Obsidian Guardian has taken over, the Khlorri have been poisoned and forced into slavery, performing the same duties, but with none of the love and respect they bestowed on Philima.
